Students need to be 14 years 8 months of age to enroll in the Segment 1 class. Segment 1 consists of twelve, 2 hour classes and 6 hours of behind the wheel driving experience. The behind the wheel hours will coincide with the classroom. These hours will be scheduled after the class begins. After completion of the Segment 1 class, students will be issued a Segment 1 card from Dickinson Area Driving School, Inc, which they will then need to bring to the Secretary of State’s office and receive their Level 1 license. Students must have the Level 1 license for a minimum of 180 days in order to get their Level 2 license after age 16.
After completion of the Segment 1 class, students must then return to take the Segment 2 class. Segment 2 can only be taken a minimum of 90 days after receiving their Level 1 license. Students must also have logged 30 hours of the required 50 hours of driving time with their parent, 2 of these hours being at night. Segment 2 class is three, 2 hour classes. Students may sign up for any class we offer that fits their schedule. They must contact Dickinson Area Driving School, Inc for a Segment 2 contract.
